This September, PSA Scotland West brings together two powerful sessions designed to help speakers become more memorable, more intentional and more effective in the way they communicate.
As speakers, trainers, consultants and business owners, it is not enough to simply have expertise. We need to understand what makes us different, how we communicate that difference and how well we listen to the people in front of us.
This event will explore both sides of communication:

Session One: Stop Blending In and Discover your YOU Factor

Session Two: The Art of Listening with Cultural Intelligence
Delivered by Lucy Butters
There is little point in speaking if no one is listening.
In this thought-provoking session, Lucy Butters will explore how culture shapes how we listen, who we listen to and when we listen.
For speakers, listening is not just a soft skill. It directly affects how we read a room, connect with an audience, respond to different perspectives and understand how our words may be received.
Lucy will introduce the concept of Cultural Intelligence, known as CQ, and show why it matters for both listening and speaking.
By attending this session, you will learn how to:
- Understand more about yourself as a listener
- Recognise what Cultural Intelligence is and why it matters in communication
- Explore how the 4 capabilities of Cultural Intelligence relate to how we listen to others and ourselves
- Consider what others hear from our words, based on their own context and culture
This session will help you think more intentionally about communication, connection and the role listening plays in becoming a better speaker.
Keynote speakers
Denise Fay is a marketing mentor, speaker and author who helps coaches, consultants and service providers get more clients, more community members and more visibility.
In her role as Marketing Director, Denise uses marketing strategies and tactics to attract and retain more members to the PSA, build on the community across the regions and grow the visibility of the PSA.
When she’s not talking or writing about marketing, she’s often out running the roads of Co Louth, Ireland, training for her next marathon.
Lucy Butters is a Master Facilitator in Cultural Intelligence, one of only ten in the world, a CQ Fellow and the author of Cultural Intelligence in Practice.
Lucy founded her company Elembee Ltd in 2010 and provides training and coaching that supports leadership, international effectiveness and inclusion.
Her bespoke approach brings Lucy in front of many audiences, ranging from boards to students and everything in between. Universities, healthcare, banking and engineering are just some of the sectors she works with.
Her business followed a career in international cultural relations with the British Council.
