After learning how to grow our speaker-business last month, this month’s all about the delivery. Two fab speakers talking about talking! (What could possibly go wrong?!)

Opening the evening is our very own Regional President, Dr Simon Raybould. Simon’s going to bring home the keynote he delivered at last year’s national conference and which was described by (some!) of the attendees as “the highlight of a highlight-heavy conference”. Learn how big your stories should be, why the type of stories we’ve been told to tell don’t change the world, what the neuroscience and behaviour sciences tell us works instead… and learn a bit about his children in the process!

We’ll move on to a short “resources section” and a Showcase, where one of our newer members puts something on the stage for the first time. It’s the hardest gig you’ll ever do but we’ve all been there, don’t panic!

After a break, the PSA’s very one Director of Regions, Olga Geidane, looks at the “7 Mistakes to Avoid for Speakers”. With a focus on real-world experiences and practical advice, this presentation will guide aspiring and seasoned speakers alike through the pitfalls and challenges that can hinder their growth. You’ll learn about costly mistakes to avoid to excel in their speaking businesses.

By highlighting these mistakes and providing effective strategies to overcome them, this talk equips speakers with the tools to elevate their own and their business performance, expand their influence, and ultimately maximise their earning potential!

Simon Raybould - Regional President, PSA North East

Simon Raybould is a speaker and author who began his career as a trainer, specialising in presentation skills. Over the course of seven years, he gathered a wealth of tools, tips, and techniques for managing the nerves associated with performing, particularly during presentations.

Eventually, Simon transitioned to a broader-based soft skills training company called Aware Plus. It was there that he was introduced to foundational concepts such as positive psychology. Simon eventually found himself delivering a significant amount of stress management training—an important starting point, though he quickly recognised it was only part of the larger picture.

Through the years, Simon integrated these new ideas into his existing knowledge base and, drawing on his background as a researcher (with 24 years of experience in university research), further developed them. As a result, much of the content he shares is a mix of both innovative concepts and tried-and-tested approaches.
