About this event

This month we are delighted to have the wonderful Rachel Maunder speaking to us about storytelling and leading a workshop for us, as well as the incredible and inimitable Gethin Jones, the ex-prisoner turned leadership expert, who is a past speaker of the year at Thames Valley and travels the world on a mission to reform the prison system.

Rachel says:

“Storytelling is possibly the most powerful means of engaging your audience so why not do it well? This talk looks at how to tell stories for maximum effect as well as giving a few more tips on how to have your audience feeling you’re speaking just to them.”

Through Rachel’s speech and workshop, you will learn:

  • How to craft your story for greatest engagement
  • How to deliver your story for maximum effect
  • What else you can do to have each member of your audience feeling you’re speaking only to them.

Gethin Jones – Humanising Leadership

Are you on a journey of being professionally perfect?

Do you want to make sure you understand all the processes systems so that you can excel in your industry?

Are you on the way to becoming a professional robot?

Within this session I will explore how we have got to a point of where we are professionals first and human beings second. I will be discussing all things leadership and will explore what it means to be a leader and how can do this without being in leadership roles.

My session will give you a moment to pause, a space to develop some self awareness that will help you see your next personal development steps.

One of Rachel’s first observations about successful speakers was they all seemed to have a powerful story to share.

Initially held back by a belief that she didn’t have a story to share, she set out on a path to see the value in her own stories and to find a way to bring ordinary everyday stories to her speaking and actively encourages and inspires others to do the same.

More recently she has added another dimension to her work around storytelling and speaks on the importance and impact of reframing failure as merely a chapter of our story.

In addition to the speaking side of her business, Rachel works with business professionals who want to increase their credibility by becoming more compelling communicators.

2006: I had no qualifications – Seven years later I had educated myself to the equivalent of a degree.
2006: I had no work history – Within seven years I went from 2 hours a week volunteering to overseeing a staff of forty within Portsmouth City Council and Public Health.
2006: I had no social skills – Seven years later I am now delivering inspirational talks to audiences of 200 plus people.
2006: I had no belief in myself – Eight years later I had the unshakable belief in myself that I could set up this business.
