About this event
Join us for the highlight on the PSA Scotland calendar this August as we hold our annual fringe event! As always, you can expect fun and learning.
The official Event starts at 11:30am. Then afterwards, we’ll move on to watch some comedy and maybe even some magic!
We will have some surprises too, but you need to be there to find out exactly what!
Stephen Whitton will talk to us about Purpose:
In the frantic, chaotic world we live in, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the information we’re bombarded with – and this can drain our mental wealth reserves.
With clarity of purpose comes clarity of direction, goals and objectives – and is an essential investment to make in our Mental Wealth.
But how do we unlock that ‘clarity of purpose’ and is it really that simple?
Learn:
- The five simple steps to identifying your ‘purpose’
- How to live to your purpose and use it to shape your speaking business
- How shaping your speaking business around your purpose, will bring results
Alex Owen-Hill with Playful Vulnerability: A Serious Clown’s Guide to Getting Real and Connecting Authentically
When we speak to audiences, we want them to let their guard down and truly connect with us, right? We long for those moments of genuine and vulnerable communication, where we can make a real impact.
But often, we find ourselves stuck behind the walls of professionalism. Even in the PSA (or… controversial opinion alert!… especially in the PSA?), there is a lot of pressure to convey a certain image, say the right things, and present ourselves in a polished and perfect manner.
We are forced to wear yet another “Mask of Acceptable Business Speak.” Which makes our audiences less likely to open up and connect honestly with us. Human beings are barometers for inauthenticity.
In this highly practical session, led by the PSA’s Resident Clown and Voice Coach, Alex Owen-Hill, we’ll explore how to break free from those masks when we speak and embrace our vulnerability and authenticity… in a playful, silly, and empowering way.
We’ll start by delving into what it means to feel “unmasked” as a speaker and how that can benefit both you and your audience.
Does unmasking sound scary? Don’t worry, we’ll focus on how you can create safe and comfortable spaces to explore you and your audience’s vulnerability.
You’ll learn:
- Why “stripping off the masks” when you speak is the key to connecting with and empowering your audience… and why it’s so hard to do!
- How your presentation style might be hiding you from truly authentic connection, even if you already speak on vulnerable topics.
- A bunch of practical exercises to help you and your audience connect with their vulnerability in a comfortable, playful manner.
- The five levels of audience interaction to open up and be more authentic in your presentations (spoiler alert: the fifth level is when they throw tomatoes at you!)
- How to use playfulness to explore vulnerability and authenticity in a way that makes you and your audiences comfortable to open up.
