About this event
Still got the Olympic and Paralympic fever?! If you’re anything like me, the inspiration and admiration gained from watching the Olympic and Paralympic athletes compete at the highest level, knowing how hard they’ve trained, what they’ve sacrificed to reach that level – never fails to amaze and inspire me.
So what better way to keep that momentum going by coming to Newcastle and listening to one of these sporting stars, with the brilliant Paralympian and England’s most capped blind footballer Darren Harris who will share his experience with us.
Darren Harris: How to overcome adversity like a pro
Like you, I’m yet to hear of a speaker who hasn’t experienced adversity. Unaddressed, adversity can lead to a downward spiral, leaving us thinking the worse, feeling bad, and behaving out of character. But while our genes and environment have an impact on how we respond, our mindset is the one thing we have the most influence over.
In this session, you’ll learn how to turn adversity to your advantage by taking a positive approach so you can become happier, healthier and more productive in your personal and professional life.
And if that’s not enough… we also have David Henson showing us how to raise our presentation game to Olympic standards and ensure your message hits home, every time.
We’ve all been there – sat in an audience being subjected to the pain and tedium of an excruciatingly dull and dreary slide presentation. We pity the poor presenter as they attempt to deliver a message that just isn’t getting through and they stare out from the stage at a sea of unengaged faces. But could that person on stage be you? Maybe your slides suck?Dave’s talk is aimed at fundamentally changing the way you think about presenting when using slides.Come along to learn how to wow your audience and ensure your message hits home.
Key Takeaways:
- When to use (and just as importantly) when not to use slides.
- The benefits of treating your slides as your partner on stage.
- How to produce slides that save lives.
Talk about a Gold Standard event – so what are you waiting for? On your marks, get set… go get your tickets!
Keynote speakers
Darren Harris is a speaker, coach and facilitator who gives people in business and education the psychological skills to overcome adversity. He works with organisations that want a fun, unique and positive perspective.
He lost his sight after he was diagnosed with cancer of both eyes. But although he couldn’t regain his sight, he could unblind his mind, which meant transforming how he viewed blindness.
A dual Paralympian, Darren is best known as England’s most capped blind footballer. But he also competed at the Games in judo.
His motto is “Your eyes are useless unless you use what’s between your ears”.
David Henson is a former Regional President for the South East. He trained in photography and audio-visual production and set up The Regent Slide Company in 1986 and spent 13 years producing and imaging thousands of 35mm slides for many and varied businesses. But it wasn’t until he joined the Professional Speaking Association in 2016 that he realised that even good speakers produce bad slides. And now he’s on a crusade to eradicate excruciatingly boring slide presentations and to teach people how to produce slides that wow their audience and that make their talks memorable and effective.
