How much do you think you can learn from a 7x Emmy Award Winning Hollywood Comedy writer and a former award-winning news broadcaster for BBC TV and Radio?

Join Charlie, Rachael and the PSA East Midlands community for our final event of 2023 where our goal is for you to have the most fun at an event than you’ll have ever had before.

Our theme is comedy and humour in speaking and we’ve got an incredible line-up for you.

Jeremy Nicholas is our keynote speaker and he believes that it’s nonsense that some people believe they are either funny or they are not. He believes humour is a learnable skill…

…and he definitely knows what he’s talking about as he presented the flagship news show The World Today on the BBC World Service and won a Sony Award for his BBC London breakfast show as well as a New York Academy Award for his live commentary at the Hillsborough Disaster. On television he reported for BBC TV News on cheesy ‘and finally’ stories like the face of Elvis appearing on a piece of Stilton. He devised and wrote the TV sports quiz Sick as a Parrot which he presented on Channel 5 and BBC Radio 5 Live.

Jeremy has also taught creative storytelling at the BBC College of Journalism.

His keynote talk is called ‘Seven ways to get serious laughs in serious talks” and we can’t wait to be part of it.

Our showcase speaker is seven-time Emmy Award-winning Hollywood comedy writer, Beth Sherman. She’s written for the biggest shows in American television, including Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Ellen, and the Academy Awards Beth will be delivering a 10-minute showcase talk to the group for feedback.

Delivering a showcase is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring and experienced speakers to practise, try new material and gain feedback from a group of peers. If you’d like to deliver a showcase at the East Midlands region please get in touch – [email protected]

Once we’ve heard our incredible speakers and absorbed as much as possible we’re then going to have some fun and play some games to see how we can apply what we’ve learned in the first half of the session to our own talks.

Officially the meet-up will end at 9pm however a few of us will be staying on in the bar afterwards to celebrate our achievements of the year so far together and just have a few festive drinks.

Non-members are more than welcome so if you’d like to join us please get in touch with Charlie – [email protected] for more info.
